1. Definition of Conflict of Interest:
A conflict of interest exists when financial, personal, or institutional relationships could inappropriately influence—or be perceived to influence—the research, its evaluation, or editorial decisions. This includes:
-
Financial Interests: Grants, funding, or consultancies related to the research topic.
-
Personal Relationships: Kinship, friendship, or personal rivalries between authors and reviewers/editors.
-
Institutional Affiliations: Employment or membership in organizations interested in the research outcome.
2. Responsibilities:
-
Authors: Must declare any potential conflicts upon submission. If none exist, they should state: "The authors declare no conflict of interest."
-
Reviewers: Must notify the Editor-in-Chief immediately and recuse themselves if a conflict is identified.
-
Editors: Must handle all submissions fairly and step down from decision-making regarding manuscripts in which they have a personal or professional stake.
3. Consequences:
Failure to disclose a potential conflict of interest may result in the rejection of the manuscript or its retraction if discovered after publication.
