Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine and explain the ruling concerning wiping socks over according to Islamic scholars, to explain the conditions under which wiping is permissible, and to explain how these conditions apply to thin socks used today. It is the purpose of this research to define socks, to study and analyze the opinions and evidence of jurists concerning wiping over socks and the conditions they consider valid, and as a branch of this objective, the research question was posed: What are the conditions considered valid in Sharia that permit a person to wipe over their socks? As a result of the researcher's observations, the problem with this research arises from the fact that the conditions for allowing you to wipe over socks differ from what was decided by the jurists of the Islamic schools of thought in the past and some contemporary ijtihad (independent reasoning). It is therefore appropriate for this study to utilize a descriptive-analytical approach to address this topic by conducting research and studying, which is the appropriate method of conducting this study. Scientists study phenomena and scientific problems through scientific description, then arrive at logical explanations with evidence and proofs, allowing them to come up with appropriate solutions. According to the results of this study, there are certain conditions that must be met before wiping over socks and these conditions do not apply to thin socks.
